What is a Computer Registry?
Many people hear they can speed up their computer by cleaning up their computer registry, but don’t know what it means. The answer to this is very simple. Your registry is one of the important system files on your PC that Windows uses to run programs on your computer. This system file is an active database that contains all the information on your computer. This information is indexed into the registry so that Windows can run on your computer.
Some of the information that is stored in your registry are things like applications and basic hardware functions. Although, things like viruses can be implanted into this file. As you remove old programs off of your computer, they can leave trails in the registry that can clog up the computer as it searches for the information it needs. Likewise, if you’re using a virus scan software (you should be if you use the Internet), removed viruses can also leave trails in the registry that can slow down your computer.
You can think of the registry on your computer as the manual Windows uses to run programs. If the manual is filled with junk and gibberish, then it will take a lot longer for Windows to perform the task it has been assigned to. Therefore, with a clean registry your computer will run much faster.
